Winston, Mid East Analyst & Commentator Is there a little or perhaps a lot of the Nazi spirit alive and well among Germany’s so-called intellectuals? Publisher Rudolf Augstein of ‘Der Spiegel’ compares Prime Minister Ariel (Arik) Sharon to Adolph Hitler because Sharon is now defending Israel against Yassir Arafat’s terrorist attacks.(1) The basis of Augstein’s column was that Sharon’s hard-line toward Arab Palestinians was comparable to Hitler’s methods and, presumably, his goal of eliminating the Jews. Mr. Augstein: How is any of this comparable to Sharon’s extraordinary patience and restraint in the face of numerous terrorist assaults? What you suggest is more in tune with former Nazi propaganda than a sound analysis. One is reminded of Hitler’s accusation - among other canards - that it was the Jews’ fault that Germany had collapsed financially in a flood of inflation. A lot of not so latent Nazism is once again rearing its ugly head in Germany. Do we need to remind the reader of the six prior wars initiated by the Arab nations to eliminate the Jewish State of Israel and her Jewish citizens? Is it necessary to detail the terrorism originated by Arafat since 1964 and carried forward through today - every day? For a respected intellectual in a flagship journal, ‘Der Spiegel’ to charge that Sharon had wiped out two decades of peace efforts by provoking war, is reminiscent of Herr Goebbels’ propaganda war against the Jews of Germany, Europe and Russia. Remember how long Sharon restrained the Israel Defense Forces from counter-attacking to stop Arafat’s terror attacks against civilians, mostly women and children? Since Oslo was signed September 13, 1993, more than 700 Jews, including more than 20 Americans have been murdered by Arafat’s multi-headed terror organization, including his 85,000 "Palestinian Police Force with its 9 (or more) Secret Services. Every country’s leader has the right and the responsibility to defend his people. But, there is a bigger message in the words of Rodolf Augstein on the pages of ‘Der Spiegel’. Professor Christopher Simpson wrote a very well researched book, entitled: "The Splendid Blond Beast", referencing Herr Hitler’s goal to have a pure Aryan race with blond hair, blue-eyes with heroic Germanic stature. The book revealed that, while Hitler’s slavish thugs and generals who were dedicated to his homicidal goals seemed to be at the forefront of the Nazis’ assault on the world, especially the Jews, the demons who drove the system were those called intellectuals and industrialists. (2) The thinkers of industry and those in the media were not only merely willing recruits to Hitler’s schemes but the ‘shadow’ leaders who became Hitler’s enablers. In every society those who think set up the programs as to how their society moves forward (or backwards). Not all industrialists are intellectual Frankensteins who use people up as if they were manure to grow their industrial crops, but in Simpson’s well researched book, his Appendix lists those companies involved in Hitler’s War which killed 50 million people in 8 years. That list of collaborating industrialists who ran Hitler’s war machine covers 21 single spaced pages. That list of corporations and their executives included every significant company in Germany, plus many multi-nationals with main corporate offices in Europe and America - all of whom knowingly used slave labor. A historian from Hamburg, Bernd Greiner said that "in the 1930s, 26 of the top 100 U.S. companies collaborated to some degree with the Nazis before, and, in some cases after, Hitler declared war on the United States in 1941...there is evidence to suggest that they knew their German subsidiaries used slave labor, tolerated it and, in some cases, were actively involved." (3) In Germany, the intellectuals set the theme that Germany was invincible; Germans were a superior race and the correct Supermen to lead the world. All ‘untermentchen’ (low people) were to be enslaved for the greater good of Germany’s march toward a 1000 year Reich (a great boon to civilization). The industrial elite and not so elite became the enablers of Germany’s conquering machine. They were not behind the planning but well out in front. Bankers, steel makers, chemical producers, transportation experts, in brief, Germany’s entire industrial elite, the thinkers, the planners voluntarily harnessed themselves to Hitler’s machine. They absorbed the loot; processed the gold; stripped the conquered areas of machinery; kept the assets (including stolen jewelry, gold and real estate confiscated from Jews). They sent it all to Switzerland where it was converted into real money for Hitler’s war machine. Almost all deserved execution as war criminals for crime against humanity but, instead they were saved by American and European industrialists who admired and needed their talents. The usual role of corporate executives is to plan ahead and make things work - so they did. They planned the factory operations, including the purchase orders to the Waffen SS for slave labor from the Nazis’ concentration camps. These were the thinkers, the intellectuals of Germany who clearly understood and willingly participated in working the slaves to death. The industrialists, the writers and publishers, the vaunted judiciary, the Hochdeutsche (the high Germans) - these were the guides for Germany’s march to its hideous place in history. Today, we see the latent spirit of Nazism rising again in such places as ‘Der Spiegel’ through its publisher, Rudolf Augstein, once again starting the drumbeat: That, somehow, Global Terrorism led by radical Islamists is the fault of the Jews. That Arik Sharon is guilty of fighting Islamic Fundamentalists, the spiritual twins of Hitler’s insane desire to rule the world - only this time under a radical Islamic Khalifah State. Recall that the Arab nations generally sided with Hitler during World War II. Haj Amin Faisel Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem even invited Hitler to bring his Jew-killing machine to Palestine (which is what the Jewish homeland was called before she declared her independence as the Jewish State of Israel). The Arab nations continue to demonstrate the same aberrant thinking prevalent during Hitler’s reign. The Arabs are rampaging in Israel now while the terrorist nations of Syria, Iran and Iraq continue to build weapons that destroy whole cities. Germany is starting to vibrate in sympathetic harmony to that barely sleeping insanity that breaks out in that tortured land every so often. The Jewish people are seemingly once again thrust into being the litmus test of man’s humanity. Now they are once again being ordered to march into extinction quietly - for the greater good of everyone else - or at least the oil maggots. Unfortunately, Germany is not alone - as the nations of Europe, those same nations who rounded up their Jews for Hitler’s killing machine, also tell the Jews not to fight back. All are incensed that the Jews, especially the General who beat back all the Arab armies in six wars once again is fighting back. These are the same nations who pack that unholy building called the United Nations and always vote in a block against the Jewish State. Moreover, these same nations knowingly provided the funding for Yassir Arafat’s terrorist mechanism even as their own intelligence agencies informed them of Arafat’s operative links to all other terrorist organizations. Even now, as an alert is issued of a possible attack with catastrophic weapons on Berlin, London, Paris, New York by the radical Islamist terrorists, the nations still insist that Israel compromise her existence by accepting another State of Palestine. Even the Church of Rome embraces Yassir Arafat and cannot bring itself to condemn the well spring of Islamic terror without accusing Israel as equally guilty and deserving of being attacked. In brief, nothing has changed in the world. After the Holocaust, the world merely paused to catch its breath. Germany, as a leader of the European Union (along with France) is looked to as a role model. When they begin to chant the mantra of Hitler’s special bias, you can be assured that, once again, we are about to enter a dark period which may not end in our lifetimes. We Americans have declared war against Global Terrorism because suddenly we face the same beast that has been viciously attacking the Jews and Israel. But, at the same time, we observe America’s Secretary of State, Colin L. Powell, instructing Israel to enter into negotiations with a people, a culture and a religion all pledged to Israel’s total destruction. These are the same terrorist Arab nations who cheered Osama bin Laden’s successful attacks against America on 9/11, which insist that Israel divide herself - knowing full well that another State of Palestinian Arabs will be the death knell for the Jewish State of Israel. Clearly, the Blond Beast we thought was dead is again walking the earth - only this time he has a swarthy partner in radical Islam. ### 1.
