I can understand that suffer, I had troops under my command who were shocked. War is an “Ugly-Thing” it is not the “Super-Ball” or “European Prime League”. How ever I have to state the “State of Israel” was not given on a “Silver Plate”. In order to secure our existence, we had to fight wars that were imposed on us. Lebanon 1982 was one of those. Just to remind you all Rabin, Peres and all the Labor Party had voted YES for that war. In 1981 since May until August there was a huge tension in the northern border. Syrians were trying to open a new front, and controlling behind scene the terror actions against the northern border towns. They provoked more, by placing SAM Batteries into the “Bakka Valley” in Lebanon, threading IAF flights in the north of Israel. They were landing “Commando Troops” in the “Bakka Valley”. Israel retaliated by shooting down those “Mil Me” helicopters with those Commandos. In April 1980, a PLO group, cold blooded murdered the kindergarten children of Kibbutz Misgav-Am. (1 year to 3 years old babies). The straw that broke the Camel back, was the assassination attempt on the Israeli ambassador in London, He was badly wounded. Till that time, several Diplomats of the Israeli foreign ministry were murdered by those terrorists gangs, controlled by the Syrians and the “Nobel Prize” man ARAFAT!!!!!! Israel lunched “Aviv Oranim” operation, the moved to “Aviv Oranim Gadol” after a huge air assault at Friday and Saturday, as a response to the assassination attempt on the Israeli ambassador in London. This war was imposed on us, as Falkland was imposed on the UK. (The wars were at the same time). But in comparison Falkland was far a way from the UK, while this was in our living room. War are dynamic, and some times plans are changed due to the situation. But a nation strength is measured by it’s determination to fight and protect its interests, subjects. I just want to revile here some of the infrastructure of the terror in Lebanon. If you would enter Lebanon via Metulla (Fatma Gate), drive on the road passing “Marge-Ayoon”, “Bint-Gebeile” you will reach the Water Junction(Tzomet Ha’Maim”). East is to the Rashaya Druze Village, and Syria . West via IDF Code Road “Alebra” you will reach the Karaun Lake, and then via IDF code road “ADAMA” north you will reach the “Karaun Dam”, and “Jabel-Baruch”. (This is the “Fatach-Land”, the area of the Terror). In “Alebra” road which is a path in a canyon you could see men made tunnels. Those tunnels were Bunkers to hide Tanks, Rocket Lunchers, and Armament. Those were used by all the terror organizations. Air assault could not damage it. Just to remind you all, Six Day war was also a limited operation, IDF plans were not to reach the Suez Channel. But war is a dynamic thing. It was proven later that it was a good strategy to take the Sinai. It was the battle-field buffer of 73. Same thing IDF in Lebanon. It was a Buffer to protect the north. Even Rabin during his government (1992-1995) understood that and kept IDF troops in Lebanon. In all of the wars of Israel, there were families, and kids who lost their Fathers, Sons, Babies . The weakness is our Left-Flank society, which is avoiding the facts, and uses any tool they have to gain power. I can feel sorry for them. I would recommend them to read Nathan-Alterman’s song or story “Magash-Ha’Kessef” “The Silver-Plate”. A nation that wants to live has to sacrifice and fight. Else Israel would not had been established in 1948 and survived till today. So dear Aliel Komi think twice , you are a big girl. I wish Arik good luck. Believe me he is not a war lover.
