Keeping the art of responsible journalism alive
Dear Rush,

I really appreciate your having Benjamin Netanyahu on last fall. For me, it was an eye opener. Up till then, I had been relying on the networks to supply me with what was outstanding about that particular day's international news events.

When Mr. Netanyahu claimed that Israelis die every day from terrorist attacks, I was skeptical. I remember thinking, "If it really was that bad, then it would be on the nightly news..." So, I decided to do some checking on my own. I started subscribing to "Israeline" (Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and got links to the Middle Eastern section of various media.

I found out that, if anything, their former PM had UNDERSTATED the situation. And it wasn't even on the networks.... Brokaw... Rather... Jennings... you let me down, boys.

Rush Limbaugh, however, did not; I heard it first on your show.

Then I wondered what else about the conflict was getting by me. I started reading news stories more critically. Misleading themes, such as the following, kept appearing:

"continuing cycle of violence,"... Israel's self-defense "virtual prisoner under house arrest,"... Israel's response to Arafat's continuously inciting his people, and pathetic leadership "great strides for peace,"... Palestinians abiding by international law "Muslims ... and Jews ... with a MEDIreview (outlook),"... as though Orthodox Jews would practice terror

There are lots more examples, but I won't bore you with them.

Why don't you get Netanyahu on again, or someone else, who will address this very topic: In the name of BALANCE, the Western Media is not practicing responsible journalism. Fascism, masquerading as patriotism, is on the rise in Italy, while anti-Semitism is growing all over Europe. Did you know that the Kremlin just opened up an investigation into the Yekaterinburg Diocese of the Orthodox Church's disseminating "The Elders of Zion?" I understand that French radio talk shows are full of anti-Zionism. Apart from England and America, who else in Europe has condemned the Karine A for what it is?

Supporting the Palestinians' right to self-determination is NOT anti-Semitic. Doesn't Israel want them to have their own state? But the Palestinians REJECTED that offer 14 months ago. The terrorists are in charge of the chicken coop; no wonder it's not working. We need responsible journalism to start calling a spade a spade.

And you're just the man for the job!

I don't have Mr. Netanyahu's email address, but I may send a copy of this to the Israeli Embassy in D.C., in the hopes that they will forward it to him.

By the way, it'll be the Rams over the Steelers by 2 touchdowns.

Best Wishes, Beth Kennedy
