A loan in the gray market as model for the Oslo agreement

Amir Rubin 21 Jan 2002 amir100@attglobal.net

In 1993 Israel’s government signed the Oslo agreement that brought to the center of Israel an armed force that openly declares its commitment to the destruction of the Jewish State. The Oslo agreement resembles a loan in the gray market, taken out to provide a quick-fix solution to the Intifada. The loan, however, turned out to provide Israel with a temporary, short-lived “peace” at the price of extraordinarily high future costs.

Israelis have had to pay, and continue to pay, a high rate of interest for their loan—for the quiet that was promised by the Palestinians. Ever since the agreement was signed, Israelis have been under increasingly greater threat, and the effort required by Israel to decrease this threat increases daily.

The Palestinians get stronger over time, gaining additional weapons through every possible way, without referring to the signed agreements with Israel, using Arafat’s private aircraft, Gaza’s harbor, and tunnels connecting the Palestinian authority with Egypt.

The Hizbolla, a terror organization familiar with the deadly weapons that the PA is smuggling, assists the PA’s terror machine. Their objective is to help the PA do to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa what they had done to Kiryat Shmona, Metula, and other locations bordering Lebanon.

Furthermore, The PA tries to arm itself, like every other Arab regime, with chemical and biological weapons, so that it can increase its deadliness and claim a large number of casualties. Ongoing Katyusha attacks on Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa coupled with a tangible threat of a chemical-biological terror action, will be a strategic existential threat to Israel, mainly because of the departure of many Israelis from population centers that would lead to their economic and physical disintegration. The PA knows Israel’s vulnerabilities and therefor makes special efforts to acquire these capabilities.

The increase in the PA’s strength will inevitably lead to a comprehensive confrontation in the future—the ultimate cost of the loan that Israel took out. Like a loan taken in the gray market, the cost would swell at a fast rate until, within a few years at the most, Israel would be unable to afford the payments. The P.A. would then fulfill its stated destiny and bring about the destruction of Israel.

Looking at the broad picture, the situation seems even more dire. It is clear that other Arab countries will join the Palestinian’s fight as soon as they sense that Israel can be destroyed. It is time for Israel to reclaim its loan—the agreements that it signed were not fulfilled by the Palestinians and Israel has every moral right to get out of the agreement while it still can and to do everything in its power to minimize future losses.

Since a comprehensive confrontation with the PA is inevitable, and given that the situation will only get worse with time, Israel has to dismantle the PA along with other terror organizations as soon as possible. Through this Israel will:

Defend itself against those bent on its destruction. Save the lives of its citizens. Minimize the damage in future comprehensive confrontation with the P.A. Avoid comprehensive war with Arab states. Bring to justice the terrorists, including those belonging to the PA.

The total war against terrorism that the United States has declared, coupled with the relative weakness of the PA, provides Israel an unprecedented window of opportunity to act.

Left Israeli-Jewish Organizations like “Peace Now” and “Gush Shalom”, sponsored mainly by pro-Palestinian European organizations are the main threat to the Israelis’ perception of justice and to the ability of the Israeli government to operate and to explain the necessity of dismantling the PA in its current form.

However, there is nothing more just and moral than fighting for our lives against the totalitarian and terrorist PA. The Israeli government must use the full force of its public relation machine to clear this point and to demonstrate the absolute necessity AND MORALITY of dismantling the PA as soon as possible. ISRAEL CANNOT AFFORD

TO FAIL IN THIS WAR. The price that we will pay if the interest continues to accumulate will be too high to endure.

Understanding the just nature of our struggle will provide us with the fortitude to endure what will certainly be a long and hard struggle. This mental fortitude, combined with our military superiority, will lead to victory over our bitter enemies.
