Near Palestinian state is a barrier to peace
Amir Rubin, 17 Feb 2003
Many Israelis know that their families would have to face daily Katyusha attacks from a Palestinian state if it were forced on Israel. Yet, they do not struggle to prevent it.
Many people who love Israel and its population, have collapsed morally and rationally in front of the immense pro-Arab pressure, having been gradually weakened so much that they are unable to fight the clear moral and rational fight for the lives of their loved ones and struggle to prevent this disaster.
Since the current administration is generally loved and appreciated by many Israelis including myself, its proposed roadmap for a Palestinian state within the next two years has moved even right wing Israelis to accept the dangerous near Palestinian state solution. Public opinion in Israel as shown in polls, demonstrates that most Israelis believe that a Palestinian state would ruin our lives and yet most of them support such a state. This clearly indicates that most of them have become too weak and desperate to struggle.
It is clear that no strong change in the leading mentality within the Palestinian authority is likely within the next few years. The leaders of the terrorist mentality have succeeded to spread it throughout the population. Money, education, media, sermons, collaboration with terror groups as the Hizbolla and fear of speech have managed to grow amazing numbers of fanatics inside the Palestinian authority, many of them willing to kill themselves just to kill Jews. Their statements and actions leave no room for doubt, and they will use any additional territory or ability they get in the near future, to attack Jews in any way that they can.
A Palestinian state would make Israelis’ lives unbearable. Daily Katyusha attacks from hospitals and schools just as the Hizbolla did from Lebanon would bring Israelis lives to an even lower bottom than the Oslo agreements have. The Israeli army would have trouble firing back and more innocent people on both sides would suffer. And yet, many of Israel’s supporters inside and outside of Israel, support building this fortress of terror just ten miles from Tel Aviv, conditioning it with some short-term reforms and the replacement of Arafat.
Make no mistake, the reason they support it is not that they want to ruin the lives of Israelis; it is just that they feel obligated to compromise. Twisted logic has led them to believe that after disarming Iraq it is only just and rational to allow the Hamas to arm freely and fire at my family. I disagree strongly to this line of thinking. Jews and Israelis need not die to pay for disarming Iraq. The correct course of action is in the exact opposite direction. Fighting terror should continue with America routing out the terror mentality from Arab and Muslim nations, not by enabling them with additional power. America must first remove the terror mentality, than we can discuss moving forward with peace; reversing the order would prevent peace forever.
While peace can be achieved if we move in the right direction, a Palestinian state in the near future is an unjust and irrational move that would bring more terror and suffering to the world. Those who understand this should not fear the difficulty in fighting this danger. They must struggle as strongly as they can to prevent it.
I hope and believe that the fact that we are right will assist us in winning this crucial battle.
