|יוצא לאור הספר "מכתבי יוני",||Netanyahu in the Knesset: "We restrained ourselves long enough" |
December 29, 2008
In a special emergency session of the Knesset, opposition leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed full support for the military action and called for unity behind the Army and citizens of the south.
The main exerts from his speech:
For three crimes of Gaza, and the fourth no response said Amos (prophet of the Hebrew Bible). On firing on our civilians, on hiding behind civilians, on causing pain and suffering on our civilian and their civilians, we will return upon the murderer's regime tenfold.
On the call to annihilate us, on the dancing on the ruins of our villages, on the poisoning of minds and hearts, on the destroying of hopes, we will retaliate heavy handedly, the hand of Israel, as the prophet Amos said: "and I shall send fires onto the walls of Gaza"
There isn't a nation in the world who would have acted differently. No people who would have restrained itself so long, too long.
For many years we have been saying that the cease fire is an illusion and that we need to go from passiveness to activeness, but now we should focus on the present and the future.

|Netanyahu in Ashkelon: Israel must take over the “philadelphi” buffer zone|
January 8, 2009
After yet another day fighting and rocket fire Netanyahu visited Ashekelon, one of the closest cities to the Gaza strip.
Netanyahu reiterated the opinion he had expressed in recent days: “I think that we must finish the job in a way that we will not find ourselves in the near future with rockets fired to Ashkelon and Tel-Aviv. We need to hit Hamas on the head but also we need to take over the philadelphi route (a strategic buffer zone – see below), because if we won’t do it the cease-fire will again be an illusion that Hamas will take use to rearm itself”.
|Netanyahu: "Israel will ultimately have to topple the Hamas regime" |
"At the end of the day, there will be no escape from toppling the Hamas rule... If the government decides to adopt this goal, we will also back it," the former prime minister told reporters in Jerusalem.
