Saying it to make it happen

Dear Mr. Netanyahu:
You've been very generous in your praise of President Bush, but I don't think his actions have been as clear as his words. Thank you for challenging him to live up to his rhetoric. How I wish that we had a President like you, whose words, ideals, and actions would be consistent and coherent.
I'm afraid for America -- with Europe, we stood by 60 years ago when millions of Jews were slaughtered, entering the War only when we were attacked on our own shores. Now, we've been attacked again by the same forces of terrorism that have been attacking Israel all along, and there is far too much American support for a policy of appeasement. In terms of learning from history, not to mention moral development, we seem to be going backwards instead of forward.
I hope that your optimistic vision of America as a democratic partner of Israel, standing against totalitarianism, will become actual and real. Your continued appearances on our television sets and before our leaders is vital toward achieving that goal.
Thank you for being the voice of reason in this situation and at this hour--your diplomacy may just save the very concept of a civilized world that unites Israel and America as allies.
