Tell Arafat "Surrender terrorists or surrender power", as the Talibans were told
Ms. Goldwater Switzerland, Geneva 16 Mars 2002
Dear President Bush,
You said in your recent press conference, "Frankly it's not helpful what the Israelis have recently done, in order to create conditions for peace."
In May of last year, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon declared a unilateral cease-fire.
The Palestinians showed their gratitude by bombing the Dolphinarium nightclub in Tel Aviv on June 1.
Even in the aftermath of that PLO perpetrated massacre, Prime Minister Sharon held his fire, hoping--vainly, as it turned out--that his extraordinary restraint would promote actions for peace among the Palestinians, and provoke the sympathy from the US for Israel's cause.
Therefore it was more than inappropriate for you to remark that: "I certainly hope that Prime Minister Sharon is concerned about the loss of innocent life. We certainly -- I certainly am."
In your speech, you acknowledged Israel's right to defend itself against terrorism.
What, then, should Israel do?
The refugee camps are strongholds of Palestinian terrorism. Terrorists targeted are NOT innocent life's, their blood is on Arafat's hands.
When Al-Qaeda terrorists were operating from within Afghan population centers, with the blessing of the people there, you did not hesitate to send US bombs into the population centers.
When civilians were killed as a result, you correctly concluded that their blood was on the terrorists' hands for operating in civilian areas, even though you are so concerned about the loss of innocent life, just as Prime Minister Sharon is.
Isn't this again double standards on your part Sir, one rule for YOU and another for Israel.????
You urge Israel to exercise restraint.
But, as Colin Powell learned from Vietnam, restraint only prolongs the war and gives the enemy time to regroup.
It is far better - and more humane - to use overwhelming force to bring the war to a swift conclusion.
Thus, in October 2000, Israel acted decisively to quell rioting by its Arab citizens, with the result that only 13 of them were killed.
Thus far, however, it has acted with restraint in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, not wishing to topple the Palestinian Authority or impose undue hardship on the civilians.
The result is that the PA is still able to continue its campaign of terror, and the death toll continues to mount.
After September 11, you declared that any regime which harbors terrorists is a terrorist regime and should be eliminated.
Where are your actions now, matching those words, Sir ???
Arafat has proven over the past 8-1/2 years -- and especially during the seven years of peace talks that preceded the intifada -- that he has no intention of uprooting the terrorist infrastructure from the areas he controls.
Please tell Arafat what Tony Blair told the Taliban: "Surrender terrorists or surrender power."
Sir, the double standard game played right now by You and your administration has to stop.
Israelis and Jews shall not be lead for Passover like sheep to the slaughter bank, only because the US has their own plans of Axis of Evil to follow ....
Sincerely,
Ms. Goldwater
