| "that shitty little country, Israel " Jack de Lowe 25 Dec 2001 To the French Ambassador in the United Kingdom, Daniel Bernard: Below is your response regarding your reported remarks regarding Israel and Jews. There were 2 report remarks: 1. The current troubles in the world were all because of 'that shitty little country Israel' which your reply states that you were misquoted, but which you do not outright deny; and 2. "Why should the world be in danger of World War III because of those people?" There is no mention of this quotation. The official response from your embassy was that you do not remember making these comments. It seems there has been enough bad press that you seem to remember at least part of the conversation. The fact is that a major UK newspaper has published your remarks and you must either deny them, ask for a public apology, and threaten to sue the newspaper or you must resign immediately. This will not go away by waiting and until I hear one or the other of the above actions has taken place, I will help keep the issue in the public eye. You have the opportunity to defend yourself. Your failure to do so convincingly will, however, be understood as guilt. The suggestion below by Mr. Peter Hebert to begin a world-wide boycott of French products is something that you must strongly think about as the public has little other recourse should you fail to act. In the meantime, I will be urging all those I know and have contact with to be in direct contact with you and asking them to urge all those they know to do so too.
