The Two Wars Deception
Elan, 14 April 2002
1. Welcome Aboard
There are many variations on the widely accepted perception that the
USA's "War On Terrorism" and Israel's struggle with the Palestinians
are
two different, perhaps in some ways interrelated issues. In the
following I will argue that the virus of anti-US terrorism has
penetrated and controls the Arab anti-Semitism bacteria and that the
so-called renewed Intifada is the disguise under which Al Queda, its
supporters and strategic Palestinian partners are attacking the USA by
deploying terrorists against Israel, the US outpost in the Middle East.
The local Arab Israeli conflict has become the Al Queda's camouflage
for
the Middle East front of its global assault on the United States.
2. The Twin Towers Freedom Fighters
Most people may have only truly realized that terrorists have declared
a
"War On The USA" after the September 11th attacks. For many the
previous
attacks on US military or embassy targets abroad (Lebanon, Saudi
Arabia,
Nigeria, Yemen) were too distant to rattle any nerves at home. The
first
attack against the World Trade Center - due to its minimal fire power -
was easily discarded as an isolated incident of no consequence. The
Twin
Tower attacks, however, were sensational enough and sufficiently close
to home to buy arch terrorist Osama Bin Laden unlimited free air time
on
US airwaves to present his case to the US public, airtime in which he
avoided admitting to and claiming responsibility for the crimes against
the Twin Towers victims.
We learned that the terrorists justify their "Holy War On The USA" by
claiming that the US is waging a cultural, economical, and political
war
(Hollywood, IBM, and Freedom) against their respective homelands,
backed
by US troops stationed on "holy Muslim soil" in Saudi Arabia and
elsewhere. The USA is an oppressor, an occupying force that
desanctifies
the holy Muslim soil with its infidel troops for the purpose of
invading
and taking over the minds and hearts of the Muslim masses right under
the nose of their rightful rulers (who, for the most part, came into
power through military coups or other acts of violence, and remain in
power with the help of terror, torture, and assassinations). The USA's
oppression is implemented as an economic war that promotes its cultural
and political values, protected and enforced by its military presence.
Thus, in their view, their murders perpetrated against their
unsuspecting Twin Towers Victims were justified acts of self defense
and
the suicide pilots were veritable, heaven bound "Freedom Fighters".
3. America's Twin Towers In The Middle East
How does Israel fit into this? When Kuwait was liberated by a US-led
coalition that included Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, the terrorist
regime of Iraq retaliated by sending Scud missiles - not against Syria,
not against Jordan, and not against Saudi Arabia - but against Israel.
Recently, when it was confronted with the threat of renewed military
action, Iraq warned the USA and Britain that - if attacked - it would
retaliate by again deploying missiles against Israel.
Why would Iraq regularly respond to US military actions by directing
its
fire against Israel? Perhaps because Iraq hates Israel anyway? Let's
see. Mr. Hussein is addressing the USA saying: "If you bomb my country,
then I will bomb Israel, because I hate Israel anyway." That does not
work as a threat addressed to the United States in an effort to
discourage the US from engaging in military actions against his regime.
Perhaps Mr. Hussein believes that the USA likes Israel. "Mr. Bush, if
you bomb my country, then I will cause you grief by bombing a country
that you like." Mr. Hussein has not remained in power for all these
years by naively miscalculating his adversaries to the extent that he
would believe that threatening grief over the fate that befalls its
ally
will suffice as a deterrent against military action by the USA.
No, the underlying assumption of Iraq's terrorist leader is that Israel
is the US presence in the Middle East, the US Middle East outpost. When
Iraq deploys missiles against Israel it is doing so in the belief that
it is hitting the USA's Middle East Twin Towers, namely Israel, that it
his hitting the USA itself. Iraq's military actions against the US
consist of deploying missiles against Israel. Israel is the USA's
presence in the Middle East, a target for military actions directed
against the United States.
The Twin Towers angered Bin Laden because they symbolize the USA's
economic success. Israel angers the terrorists because it symbolizes
the
USA's political success. Not only does the USA maintain a presence on
what the terrorist's insist is rightfully Arab soil, but - to add
insult
to injury - the US organizes its presence on Arab soil as an autonomous
Jewish state, namely Israel. As Iraq's behavior and threats document,
Israel - for the terrorists - is the USA's occupation of Arab land, the
symbol of US imperialism on their turf.
4. Learning The Lessons Of The Twin Tower Attacks
The success of the Twin Tower Suicide Pilots was the result of
deception, disguise, and camouflage. Not unlike the suicide pilots, who
entered the United States on student visas, promising to dedicate their
stay in the US to advancing their intellectual abilities, so too did
Arafat enter the disputed territories on a "peace" visa, based on the
promise that he had renounced terrorism and wished to organize a
peaceful coexistence with Israel. Both the suicide pilots as well as
Mr.
Arafat were on a mission very different from the one they admitted to
in
order to gain entrance to their terror mission's respective
destinations.
One of the suicide bombers reportedly explained to his flight
instructor
that the reason he was learning to fly in the US, was because he was
being refused the freedom to receive training in his homeland, a
training that would qualify him for a lucrative career as a pilot once
he returned home. Perhaps that instructor, moved by the suicide pilot's
story cleverly designed to ring as familiar as the "American Dream"
itself - the freedom to earn an opportunity for social mobility, based
on one's willingness to take the initiative and invest a maximum effort
- added a little extra effort in his attempt to train the young man, an
effort that perhaps enabled this particular pilot to steer his plane
into the Twin Towers with a little more excellence than his colleagues.
Mr. Arafat and his homicide troops are also quite adapt at releasing
sob
stories that ring well in the ears of the liberal press which may have
just enough impact on the decisions made in Washington, to make it a
little easier for homicide bombers to successfully reach their target
destinations in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and murder perhaps one or two
additional innocent victims.
Until the final moment at which they began their takeover of the
airplanes they had boarded as peaceful passengers, the homicide pilots
and their terrorist support teams were careful to disguise the purpose
of their missions. Even after their attacks had already been
perpetrated
no organization officially claimed responsibility for them or
formulated
demands addressed to the United States. Had it not been for the fact
that the targets were located in the United States and were obviously
American and not foreign targets, no one would have been able to
determine conclusively that the United States had been attacked! Had
the
suicide pilots blown themselves up in a supermarket instead, perhaps we
would have all assumed that these were some nuts who were upset about
the long lines at the cash registers! Only the choice of their targets
gave away that these were politically motivated attacks. Only the
subsequent investigations enabled us to link the acts with a specific
terrorist organization, a specific country, and a Muslim ideology. Had
it not been for the results of our investigative efforts to determine
who was behind these attacks, we would have had no way of knowing
whether these attacks were committed by some homegrown militia group,
or
by some antagonistic foreign government, perhaps China, North Korea, or
Iraq, for example.
Similarly the suicide Bombers of the Matza restaurant or the
Dolphinarium have left no clues indicating that their efforts are
directed against the United States. The choice of their targets and
their ethnic backgrounds give us no reason to assume that their war is
directed against anyone else but Israel. Even more, they leave behind
video footage in which they clearly express their motivation to commit
their crimes.
But could all that be part of the camouflage, part of a "Boston Tea
Party" myth, not unlike the suicide pilot's "American Dream" story, a
story designed to move our hearts and motivate us to help them
establish
their very own Palestinian state, so that they will be able to better
their lives, because we are reminded of our own struggle for freedom
...
only to later see them pilot their very own autonomously Palestinian
national airline jets into some Middle East version of America's Twin
Towers? We may be tempted to judge these terrorists by the statements
they leave behind, but can we really trust that the persons sent on
suicide missions are comprehensively briefed on the full extent of the
political goals that their mission's organizers are pursuing?
The fact that the organizers of the Twin Tower attacks failed to
release
letters in which they accepted responsibility for the attacks and
explain their motivation warns us that these terrorist organizers are
not interested in gaining immediate rewards and recognition for their
terrorist acts, but are satisfied with having them perpetrated. We
cannot expect that they will tell us, "We have attacked Israel in order
to hit the USA". Iraq's Saddam Hussein, however, has told us precisely
that. He has gone out of his way to point out that terrorist attacks
against Israel are politically directed at the USA. In formulating his
threats he has destroyed the myth that Israel is engaged in a merely
local conflict, in a different war than the USA's "War On Terrorism".
He
has exposed the fact that Israel is under attack as a US base in the
Middle East, as part of the terrorist's "War On The USA".
But why would the Al Queda and its terrorist compatriots disguise the
fact that they are fighting the United States on Israeli soil? Leading
the USA to believe that the terrorist war on Israel is merely a local
conflict removes this front from the USA's "War on Terrorism" agenda,
thereby weakening the USA's determination to do everything it takes to
win the battle in Israel. The terrorists must take advantage of every
possible US weakness, in order to increase their chances of winning
this
"War On The USA". Just as they did not officially take credit for the
Twin Tower attack, so are these terrorists also more interested in the
tactical advantage of misleading the US to believe that this is merely
a
local conflict, than in broadcasting the pride they take in their
successful missions against the US on Israeli soil, albeit disguised as
part of a local, isolated conflict.
4. The "One War" Doctrine And The "Two Wars" Deception
From the point of view of those who began this war the targets - the
World Trade Center, Afghanistan, and Israel - are all battlefields of
one and the same war against the USA. It is, therefore, a dangerous
mistake for the US to accept the "two wars" deception, lower its visor
in the Middle East under the assumption that it is merely a local
conflict that is interfering with the USA's global aspirations, and
allow the terrorist alliance a cheap victory on the USA's Israel front,
in response to the pressure of the liberal media that is responding so
well to the terrorist's "Boston Tea Party" sequel to the "American
Dream" suicide pilot.
Stabilizing its temporary victory in Afghanistan, and planning its next
war against Iraq are not the only missions the US has to carry out
successfully in order to win the "War On Terrorism". If it wants to win
the "War On Terrorism", the USA cannot afford to be sloppy on the
Israel
battlefront due to the mistaken assumption that it is merely a local
conflict. Restraining Israel's ability to eradicate the terrorist
infrastructure under Mr. Arafat's rule reverses the USA's military
accomplishments in Afghanistan, because it provides the terrorists with
the ability to migrate their infrastructure to the Middle East under
the
protection of the PA.
The Taliban leadership - threatened with war by the US - hurried to
denounce the September 11th attacks, just as Arafat has complied with
Mr. Powell's demands under the immediate threat of otherwise being left
for Mr. Sharon to deal with. Just as Osama Bin Laden cannot be the
USA's
peace partner in Afghanistan, Sadam Hussein cannot be the USA's peace
ally in Iraq, so to the US government cannot accept Mr. Arafat as the
USA's peace guarantor in the Middle East.
The extent of the US support for Israel's crackdown on the PA's
terrorist infrastructure will determine whether the United State's war
in Afghanistan will merely serve to raise the terrorist's cost of doing
business, a penalty exacted for the incredulous act of hitting targets
in the heart of the US homeland, or whether it will have a lasting
effect in compromising their ability to recruit, train, and deploy new
generations of "freedom fighters" against US targets worldwide. Will
the
"War On Terrorism" be unwittingly converted into "Appeasement Of
Terrorism" by an administration that fails to identify the Middle East
as a battlefield on which the USA is being engaged, instead accepting
the terrorist's deceit and believing that the terrorist "War On
America"
in the Middle East continues to be a separate and local conflict
between
Palestinians and Israelis?
Iraqi Scud missiles and Palestinian suicide bombers are terrorist
attacks against the United States no less than the suicide pilots.
Palestinian demonstrators regularly burn US flags along with Israeli
flags to drive that point home to the Palestinian masses. Israel in the
Middle East - like the Twin Towers in New York - are symbolic targets
that represent the economical and political success of the United
States, and terrorist actions against Israel are calculated attacks on
the United States as Iraq's Saddam Hussein has informed us. Israel is
under attack in the Middle East as the USA's Twin Towers on Middle
Eastern soil, which makes the war there part and parcel of our "War On
Terrorism" here. There is only one war.
