The vote on a PLO State

Jack O'Brien 12 May 2002

How refreshing that the Likud should challenge the notion of a Palestinian State. There was no interest whatsoever among the Arab brotherhood in such an entity when they controlled the original Transjordan. No Arab country has ever lifted a finger to help create a Palestenian State or to improve the lot of the "refugees", though they could do so easily. The Palestinian Arabs are being played like a violin in this conflict as the Arabs use them to advance their true agenda - the destruction of Israel.

As an American, I am sorely disappointed that our government puts its big-stick diplomacy above the cost of Jewish lives in order that we may ready a war against Iraq. Doesn't President Bush realize that Saddam's first act of retaliation will be to strike Israel? How can Bush ask so much of a friend whom he treats worse than a servant? What moral high-ground do we have when we maintain refugee camps for the American Indian after more than a century of occupation? None. But this is where we are. This is the history of our people and, like the Israelis, we must deal with the situation as it now stands.

Plainly, Israel's Muslim Arabs have not demonstrated a sincrere desire for a State. They have rejected that very offer in favor of the true agenda which is war. Conversely, Israel's Jews have shown they offer peace and commerce to Muslims who want to live as good neighbors. They have been permitted to elect their own democratic representatives to the Knesset and to practice Islam without fear of oppression. When Israel became a state it was necessary to the survival of a People who were defined by multiple distinctive characteristics (a culture). It was a dream of many generations built by real work, not by hateful violence.

A Palestinian State is not necessary, and if it is, it is not necessary to build it in the Jewish homeland. That's crazy. A Palestinian State is not sincerely sought, nor is there evidence that Palestinian people labor for it.

Like the United States, Israel has a Manifest Destiny that will require the defeat of enemies and the burden of perpetual security in order to attain. I have no doubt it will happen and I pray it happens soon.
