War Crimes
Michael Fisher 22 Aug 2002
The constant talk both within and from outside of Israel from both Jews
and non Jews regarding war crimes is alarming. It seems that when so
much media attention is attached to something like this the likelyhood
of future legal actions regarding the issue is exponentially increased.
Has any other nation been the subject of so much war crimes dialogue
since after World War II? Many countries commit greater attrocities
than
Israel is alledged to be commiting. But no country allows such talk to
become widespread. In America and many other countries people who talk
this way about America are seen as traitors or some kind of enemies of
the state. In any case no country facing an existential threat of the
magnitude that Israel is facing can allow such talk to continue.
Democracies frequently manage to curtail such talk in spite of strong
traditions of free speech and freedom of the press. A country who
doesn't do so is risking the future lives and security of the soldiers
and politicians who are attempting to protect it.
