Yasser Arafat & Israel

Robyn Craig 31 Mar 2002

As an American in support of Israel, I just get infuriated when I see these Arab Countries coming out in support of Yasser Arafat against Israeli Aggression! I don't know how they can honestly keep a straight face when they verbalize these words. Is there thinking that convoluted? I fired off this message to the Embassies of Jordan, Egypt and a number of others:

I had to write and express my amazement at the stance various Arab/Muslim Countries are taking on the current situation in Israel. How can anyone stand by Yasser Arafat, he is promoting this violence that continues there. Not once, not one single time has Israel initiated violence. Always the violence has been initiated by Arab Terrorists to which Israel responds. The latest Passover massacre is totally unacceptable and inexcusable no matter what anyone of you may say. The same is true of the more recent terrorist bombings in Haifa, etc.

While held up in his compound he can speak to the whole world media & have TV conferences yet he can't speak to his own people and tell them to stop the suicide bombings? This is a ridiculous comment! He can speak to them as easily as he speaks to us. When he does speak it's to say he would prefer to be a Martyr to exile or surrender - this promotes more suicide bombing which he is well aware of. It is in fact his intention when he says such things. It is his cue to Hamas and the others to proceed with more.

Hamas and the others are little more than blood-thirsty savages. They have no place in a modern civilized society. There is no civilized society anywhere that would tolerate such people. And yet all of you side with Arafat and these suicide bombers, I can't believe you are doing this.

I check in on the various Arab newsites now and then to see what is being said. The reporting is so one sided is renders the papers worthless except as propaganda, no wonder people in your Countries feel the way they do - only one side of the news is being told to them. You do not have a free press in your Country so these lies and one-sided positions can only be done with your approval. Many of you take substantial sums of our money and then spew this garbage about us, you should hang your head in shame & embarrassment. The American people need to become more vocal in demanding that our money not be sent to Countries such as yours, who take our money & then bite our hand.

As for Arafat, he is no credible peace partner for Israel. He has been a game-player and a Liar for far too long. Even as an American Christian I can see he has no credibility. His word can not be trusted. I don't believe you would trust him in any negotiations you may have with him on behalf of Egypt, nor would Jordan, etc. He does not have the best interest of his people in mind when he negotiates & he does not negotiate in good faith. He is unacceptable as a Peace Partner to Israel, I as an American can see this clearly - it's puts Israel in an impossible position. Someone creditable and trustworthy must be brought forward as a replacement to negotiate a successful peace settlement.

That someone must truly care about improving the well-being of the Palestinians as well, namely:

1) A good educational system that will teach math, science, computers, business management, etc. not the art of martyrdom. 2) Promote business and entrepreneurship that will create jobs for their people through their own people. 3) Build medical centers and hospitals to provide for the health and well being of the Palestinians. 4) Build Hotels and Restaurants to promote tourism which will bring more money and jobs. 5) Put together a real legal system and will bring real law enforcement and security so these other programs can actually work.

Arafat has thrown away millions of dollars enriching himself and his cohorts; promoting violence and buying weapons instead of spending it to improve his people. This can not be allowed to continue. The people in this region deserve better and that will only come with a Trustworthy Peace Partner who has the best interest of his people firmly in site. Someone who is looking to the future and moving forward instead continuing to churn over the past, we can not live in the past.

I will hope you'll take my words to heart.

Thank you for your time.

I also sent e-mails to Fox News, CNN and MSNBC asking them why they aren't asking the question " If Arafat can communicate with all of us & have TV conferences, then why can't he talk to his people". I am amazed that question is not being asked.
